Well, with a little more digging and a lot more playing around I was
able to get it working in 640x400 without a hitch. I prefer 1024x768 but I
still cannot get that to sync correctly.
I have been using xf86config and editing /etc/XF86Config to get it just
right. Previously, with the same version of SuSE and the same monitor but
different video card I could pick the "8514 compatible" selection when you
are prompted for your hsync but that does not work any more. Anyone have
any suggestions on what to look for or something that I could try?
Thanks again.

I realize that this subject has been discussed extensively on this
(I've been through the list archives) I have tried everything that has been posted and still to no avail.
The display adapter that I am using is built in on a PCChips mother board, it is designated as "AGP" but the mother board has no AGP port. There is an entry in SaX for this card but I cannot get it to sync right.
I used to be able to get this monitor to work at 1024x768 8bpp with a diamond stealth 3D 2000 but had to give it up when I built a computer for my mom.
I have tried all the options i.e, no_bitblt, noaccel, and sw_cursor
were mentioned. I use the hsync and vsync values specified on the monitor specs I got from the IBM web site. I can't even get it to work in 640x480. SaX actually gives me a readable screen at that res but it is stretched vertically and narrowed horizontally.
I would like to know if anyone could give me some help or at least
list. that point
me in the right direction. I will be getting a new monitor and vid card, but not for awhile, and I don't want to wait to start using KDE again (I prefer the GUI to the console)
B.T.W. I am running 6.2, I haven't upgraded or installed anything other than what comes on the cd's.
If preferred, one can reply offlist to me at damianks@netnet.net
Thanks in advance.
