PS: What's the [SLE] in every subject on this list? Is there a FAQ which could answer this?
[SLE] - SuSE Linux English.
Allot of mailing lists put there name (or part of there name), in the subject line so that the users of/on the list can easliy filter and sort all incoming mail into a specific folder. Put all SLE mail in the ~/Mail/SLE folder, makes sense.
One. (Personal peeve.) "Allot" is to divide something up into portions for assigned purposes or people,. It's an erroneous attempt to correct "alot", which is not an English word. If you mean to say "a great many" or something of that sort, what you are looking for is "a lot", two words.
Sorry, didn't know this was a freaking grammer contest. : ) I did not know that though, so thanks for pointing that out, now if I can just deprogram that from my brain. A lot of mailing lists ...
Two. As for the filtering, I just have a rule to toss everything that has "suse-linux-e@suse.com" in any header into a folder.
That works also. Now that I think about it, another reason for putting it in the subject line that is some mail clients (Elm, Pine, OutLook) don't put the header in the "main screen" but ussually just the sending and subject. One is able to see and detremine quickly from their "main screen" of their email client that this message is or is not from a certain mailing list. Jack
