I am reading a little about the reiserfs and have a few questions if anybody can answer them. Is the reiser fs going to be replacing ext2 in the near future? What are the advantages/disadvantages. Can I boot from it or do I need to keep / as ext2? The reason I am asking is I am looking to get a larger hard drive and the reiserfs seems to be designed for that. Any input would be greatly appreciated. TIA. </quote>
There's a big chance the 2.4 kernel series will adopt Reiserfs as it's default filesystem. It's proven to be quite stable, since Suse runs Reiserfs on it's public ftp servers. Reiserfs is good for a lot of files, because it doesn't work with inodes - it's ideal for a server running a full news feed. I think it's slower for really big files, but I'm not sure. regards, Gerrit. -- Plies korekt enie bet ingglisj joe encauntur in mai imil mesusj! -----BEGIN GEEK CODE BLOCK----- http://www.geekcode.com Version: 3.12 GCS dpu s-:-- a14 C++++>$ UL++ P--- L+++ E--- W++ N o?
