[SLE] Question about PCMCIA and Kernel 2.2.14

I just want to verify that PCMCIA Card support is not a feature of the Kernel, is this correct? I can't find anywhere to configure it, and I think it's handled by external features, but I can find PCMCIA under modules on my current Kernel, so I'm a little jumpy since this laptop is a proven pain to reinstall on, but I'd like to update the Kernel. Anyone know how pcmcia support interacts with the kernel?
