I agree about the printing. Took me weeks to get my HP LaserJet 1100xi working, and even now it only work in GhostScript even though it's a PS printer. I tried using the PS_600dpi filter in YaST but I got the same as Rusty here got - about 30 pages of useless crap. I ended up pulling the plug on the printer and rebooting my system.
Anybody have any hints on getting the PS filter to work right? GS is okay, it's just slower than snail sh*t.
I'm surprised you're having a problem with a Postscript printer. I only use PS printers with Linux because they're the easiest and most reliable to set up. I'd do as Paul suggests below and check whether your printer is configured for Postscript.
I've got an HP PostScript-capable printer too, and I don't have that particular problem though I've had other printing problems (more about that in a moment). Is it possible that the printer itself is configured to expect PCL rather than PostScript? There's a control panel setting on my printer (a LaserJet 5M) that chooses between PCL (the printer's native language), PostScript, or automatic selection. You could try forcing the PostScript choice and see what you get.
