I bought a new CD-RW (my CD-Rom is dead) and installed, connecting both the "regular" and "sub-woofer" (which I don't have) plugs to the soundboard. Music CD's would only play on the right speaker. Once I unplugged the "woofer" pin everything started working perfectly.
Thanks to you guys who responded with the tech question on sound install. Finally, after using ALSA sound drivers then, CD plays. I actually did not need to upgrade from the Suse FTP site. Since ALSA is already installed through YAST, I just invoked the command alsaconf and ran me through the process.
