Can you read this newsgroup? I can't, so I asked the local news administrator,
and got the reply below. Make sense to you?

RE: group alt.os.linux.suse availability
James Bennett
I brought this to our news administrator and he told me that we
basically are pretty hands off of alt newsgroups. He went to check
control logs that really deal with creation of lists and other problems
related to group propagation's and creations and found that apparently
the group first existed as an unmoderated group. Somewhere thereafter
someone attempted to make the group a moderated group, when they did
this it created a delete command to delete the old group (which was
successful) and then it attempted the creation (which was rejected for
reasons that are not apparent to us).
When we attempted to subscribe to this newsgroup to problem solve
this the message we got was "newsgroup does not exist". Further
diagnosis came up with the fact that the group did exist and was
deleted.
Our system manager feels that chances are the people who control
the "suse" groups will notice this and remedy it, however it is not
something that we control.
