ACtually, the problem is endemic to netscape. There appears to be an internal problem where netscape just gets lost, but it appears the dnshelper portion continues running and consuming 100% of the cpu resources. Netscape can be very unpredictable. I find that sometimes it seems to have problems with certain websites which use a lot of java code. The cool part of the problem is that simply killing the netscape gui doesn't stop the problem, in fact our little helper really goes nuts then. If you have installed KDE with your SuSE, make sure you run ktop prior to doing an extended browsing sessions. When it dies scan down the task manger list, normally towards the bottom, for the netscape process. It can be killed very easily. Hope this helps.... On Tue, 15 Feb 2000, Matthew King wrote:

TOP shows one of two Netscape pids taking the cycles. My only solution is to KILL Netscape and restart it. This is unpredictable and cannot be produced on demand. Can any of you help me to discover why this happens and how to prevent it. While it is happening it has serious impact on X and KDE; screens don't refresh etc.
I too have experienced this probelem before.. I could not attribute it to anything other than visiting certain web pages.. Unfortunantly there have not been any upgrades to netscape for such a long time that just about everyone using Linux for browsing with it has seen something like this.
