Hi,
Anyone know roughly when we can expect the next SuSE and will it have the reiserFS filesystem? Ext2 is a bit cranky for these modern days. Also, is there a schedule for SuSE PPC??? I hate MacOS!
I thought 6.3 included reiserFS? Anyways I've got a question on filesystems. What do people think of the IBM JFS that was released?

"JFS that was released". Are you saying that IBM has released a Linux version of JFS? I have been working with AIX (IBM Unix) for the last 3+ years and I would love to see the features of the JFS and the underlying logical volume manager (LVM) on any Linux filesystem. It makes dealing with disks and filesystems a real pleasure compared to using fdisk and ex2fs. As an example you can add, remove and increase disk partions (logical volumes in IBM lingo) on the fly. The same goes for the filesystem on top of the logical volume, which in most cases is a JFS. So if, for example, the /var filesystem is getting a little bit cramped during production due to a lot of mail and large printouts, I would just issue the command: chfs -a size=+100000 /var That would add ~50MB of diskspace to the JFS, and the logical volume beneath it, and nobody will notice anything. Unless they run the df command before and after that is.
