Hi.

IPMasqing and simultaneous in"
From: "Mac Q. Flores IV"
a certain ISP which we are considering to use indicates that there is an additional $1.50/hour charge for simultaneous connections. i'm setting up a system with a linux box running IPMasq for the internal network connected to eth0. the external interface will be a ppp0 with dial on demand configured. i know that IPMasqing was made just for this particular purpose but will the ISP still be able to detect that a simultaneous internet connection is being made?
As with Cisco's Network Address Translation, there is always ways that people can detect if traffic comming from one single server is really for more than one box.. One thing to look for on the ISP side would be that every single request was comming from different Port numbers.. Very high and unassgned port numbers.. The ISP would have to be monitoring your traffic before it could detect this kind of stuff.. If an ISP does not allow multiple connections, the best thing to do is find another ISP..
