Today I heard about the latest VMware 2.0 beta and decided to give VM another try. It sure looks promising. To my great surprise I was able to compile a program with Visual C++ under VM. I posted the following on the VMware newsgroup, but the SuSE group is where I usually get answers: I just downloaded the 2.0 beta. I'll buy it for sure if I can get it to work. I'm running Windows 98 as the guest OS under SuSE Linux 6.3. I have a Matrox G400 video card and I wonder if that's causing VMware problems. I downloaded and installed the vmware tool-kit. I'm trying to use the existing Win 98 in vmware. I followed the instructions when I installed the toolkit and told windows to use the driver in C:/windows/temp. On restarting Windows, it says my video device isn't configured properly. Running Windows with VM, I opened the control panel. Under Display adapters I see VMware SVGA with the yellow exclamation that indicates it's broken. If I click properties, it says "The loaders for this device cannot load the required drivers. (Code 22). Windows runs amazingly well under vmware. I was even able to run that bloated monster, Visual C++. Any kind of video, though, is VERY slow. Any help will be greatly appreciated. -- Kenneth R. Kellum -- San Jose State University To be forewarned is to be forearmed. To be forearmed is to be half an octopus.
