Hi SuSE folks, just to inform you: It seems the 3c90x driver (original 3COM Version 1.0.0 delivered with SuSE Linux 6.3) has got a serious SMP problem. The Kernel freezes as soon as a lot of Packets are send or received. (SysREQ Key is the only thing that still works...) The driver of Donald Becker (3c95x, which is also delivered with SuSE 6.3 but stated in the kernel as a driver for the 3c900 Cards, which is not true because it supports nearly all 3COM Cards) is working perfectly in Uniprocessor and Multiprocessor mode. I contacted you SuSE Guys 8 Weeks ago and told you that your SuSE 6.3 has got a serious SMP problem. (SuSE 6.0 - 6.2 worked perfectly on exactly the same server hardware here). The message I received after a few emails passed arround was: "You must buy incidents". Not very customer friendly.... I will inform 3COM about this issue. BTW: Why has the driver changed for 3C905 Cards from Donald Becker's excellent driver to the 3COM??? We do get 11.9MB/sec with Donald's driver (ttcp) and it's working very stable.
