Hiya! Someone in this list told a couple of days ago to use "linux single" when booting lilo to help someone who forgot his password... Ok, now I ask, what is really the "single" run level?
It is a runlevel meant for administration purposes. Some things are best not played with, when there are other users logged in, who might be using the files you are changing. I think there is a description of the runlevels in /etc/rc.d/README (the filename might be wrong, but it's in there somewhere.)
