Jerry, Thanks! You not only proved that my flagging resolve to run gnucash was well-founded, but you anticipated and answered my next two questions: (1) what else do you need (I discovered that some of the packages listed needed further packages when I tried installing them.) and (2) what else out there actually works? I tried cbb 0.79 and found that everything works -- except the ability to enter new data (!). I've already downloaded moneydance 2.02. Will try it when I've some time. Good to know that that effort will be rewarded! Thanks. Steve -- On Mon, 24 Jan 2000 16:50:35 Jerry L Kreps wrote:
Hi, Steve! I ran into exactly the same problem attempting to install gnuCash about six months ago. Some of those 'numerous packages' required other packages to be installed, if I remember correctly, and in the end I just gave up on it. Developers should include ALL necessary packages required to run their app in the download of the app itself. The only exception I can see to that is Java. It should especially be true of esoteric auxillary programs.
Well, I loaded MoneyDance 2.0 and found it to be quite satisfactory. JLK
