I recently installed ssh-2.0.13 it was not a rpm just a standard .tar well a friend told me to only use the openssh because the rest are buggy. so I am getting ready to downoad the open ssh. But Do I need to uninstall the old one first?? kpackage and gnorpm don't even know it exists. and I know where the binary is at. Do I just delete it. and install the new version???
Yeah, that's the problem with ``tarballs''. They virtually never come with uninstall procedures. The problem is in knowing what to delete; it may involve more than just a binary. Ordinarily, Linux programs don't tweak existing files; they just add new ones. But I'm sure there are exceptions. I guess that's one of the things that led to the development of the Redhat Package Manager.
