So, we are using our files. Mmm... consider the string "Download
Photos with digikam". If I grep it in lcn, yast and webyast, I find a
single occurrence of such string in
lcn/po/update-desktop-files-kde.it.po.

So, it is not in any .pot file? Then it will not be used, and worse, the
msgids in the .po files are probably bad.

When the program runs, it searchs for the internal string in the translated
.mo file. If there is even only one char different, it is not used, it
defaults to the original, English, string.

Points of failure:

* The .pot files have to match, to the letter, the source code.
* The .po files have to match, to the letter, the .pot files.
* The binary translation has to match both the source and the .po file.

We do not have a method (automatic) to verify all that.

"GenericName(webpin.desktop): Search for software in online repositories "
msgstr "Cerca software nei repository online "

There is a difference in the msgid and I do not know whether this can
be the cause of not using translation.

Yes.
