I have TDE installed on my opensuse tumbleweed. All is working almost fine. start the computer, the sytem boot, and load trinity desktop and my session. The problem is when i want shutdown the system, i select "power off", TDE is closed but i get the graphical login (¿SDDM?). The TDE mailing list said that i need switch to TDM login manager and suggest edit /etc/sysconfig file but nothing change. I read that in newes distributions is not longer used sysconfig file to admin display manager. ¿why sddm do not talk with TDE to shutdown? ¿how i can switch to TDM?
you need to install yast2-alternatives after this you find in yast a new function in section miscellaneous there you could switch the display manager to some other than sddm. i do not know what tdm is., maybe lightdm? if its not listet
TDE is the KDE3 fork. TDM is the KDM3 fork. The instructions for enabling KDM3 work identically to those for KDM3, other than the different first letter. TDM is provided by the rpm trinity-tdm, and might be automatically enabled simply by installing it. When I install TDE I always ensure first that no other DM besides XDM is installed. I suggest that you do the same if TDE is your preferred desktop, to avoid future discontinuity after any update to SDDM might switch the default back from TDM. TDE isn't usually as quickly kept in sync with openSUSE as with other distros.
there you have to install your displaymanager. you could do it of course also editing some files, but sorry, at the moment i do not remember....
When the change was made from /etc/sysconfig to /etc/alternatives and commands were announced for manually making the change on installed systems, I created a script: update-alternatives --install /usr/lib/X11/displaymanagers/default-displaymanager default-displaymanager /usr/lib/X11/displaymanagers/tdm 15 This is what etc/alternatives should contain: default-displaymanager -> /usr/lib/X11/displaymanagers/tdm default-xsession.desktop -> /usr/share/xsessions/tde.desktop IIRC, yast2 > alternatives is simpler than remembering what I named my script. :-) -- Evolution as taught in public schools is religion, not science.
