Seems like a filesystem error. What type of fs do you use? I've
seen such random fs corruptions with reiserfs. Though never took
3 days of uptime afterwards - they usually appear at unclean
shutdown...

For the others: sorry, I've forgotten to say ... I did of course a df ...
and both disks (/ and /home) still have enough free space ... although the fsck did not bring any strange results ...
