I don't think, that you have another chance, because only you know, what you want or not. Maybe you can correct your passwd-file with an script, which throws away everything you dont want, or only keeps what you want.
And I'd still like to know why it says it's unchanged, when it changes it ;)
this could be only a problem with your cmp. this is the way the files are compared. i'm using 7.3, so i can't check with 8.0.
