I belive this is dependent upon the email client and not the server. I believe that a
previous poster indicated that they would need to authenticate against the POP3 server
and then be permitted to use the SMTP server.

...I know that pop3 uses checkpassword by default, is there a way you can get users to authenticate before being able to send mail out from smtp?
