Logcheck says sendmail is being attacked because email clients on the private subnet are all timing out trying to connect. They all default to 15 second time out, but sendmail takes 30 seconds to connect to smtp. So does telnet to port 25, but ONLY when accessed from the local net (192.168...). Its instantaneous from the internet side. But get this: it only happens if there is a samba connection on the 192.168 side. (Not allowed from public side). Tear down all samba connections and the email clients (mostly Pegasus) connect instantly. Otherwise delay is 30 seconds, (almost exactly). Checked all the usual culprets (identd running ok, DNS resolution ok, dhcpc working, etc.) Note, box does not route, its not intended to, we have a seperate firewall box for that). I've run into this 30 second delay before, but can't recall what it is. It seems to me it was identd related. Any clues why this would start happening all of a sudden? -- _________________________________ John Andersen / Juneau Alaska
