I should have added that I used the SuSE 2.2.19-11 kernel before, where everything worked fine. So the problem must be due to the fixes from -11 to -162. As I was pointed to this: I consider this the right place to ask although it is not a security question in the common sense. However, as the security update is recommended by SuSE and stops my machine from working, I thought the first place to ask is in the list where the update was published and recommended.
