Sure, you are right. To do it yourself is sometimes better. I have used my own software for years on our Suns. But to be up to date with current software releases (at least with security related things) makes a lot of work. One of the reasons to use a distribution like SuSE is to reduce work. .htaccess needs the auth_module. Is it correctly built?
