Dear readers,
I asked for a recommended reading on Linux security. The result was
Both books exist, else how can i have them? eheh
Maximum Security 2nd Edition, cover some common OS's, including linux and
windows. The 3rd Edition of Maximum Security is called Maximum Linux
Security, and cover only linux. IHMO if for suse you consider this an
option, be aware that some very important issues arent covered in both
books, so before that in the documentation provided with the SuSe, we got
lots to read about security..
Also, add this links too your knowledge:
http://www.enteract.com/~lspitz/papers.html - great papers from Lance
Spitzner, read with extra atention on "Armoring Linux". Its based on Red Hat
distribution, and probably not all examples fit in your example, but its
very friendly so you can easy do it on SuSe. The reference on Bastille, you
can jump, and use instead use what is provided here
http://www.suse.de/~marc/ . Bastille is for Red Hat and Mandrake, and really
did mess things here on suse 6.4, like the strong password features can
crash your GUI login (among other things). Get also a good Linux book, like
Linux Unleashed (i suppose last edition is 4th) from SAMS, and you can also
try other, not so consensual, like Hacking Exposed.
http://www.securityfocus.com/frames/index.html?focus=linux gives you also
some more good lectures, and many security books references in the Library
area.

Actually, the SAMS book is entitled "Maximum Security".

I've been advised off-list, that the title "Maximum Linux Security" *does* exist. This is in addition to the earlier publication, "Maximum Security". Both titles are by Anonymous. I had based my assertion (above) on a search of SAMS web site, http://www.samspublishing.com/ which yielded a reference to the earlier publication only. Having now done a wider search, I can confirm the following publication details:
Anonymous "Maximum Linux Security" SAMS Publishing ISBN 0-672-31670-6
Which assumes the information given at the following URL is correct:
http://www.nri.ca/Bookstore/OperatingSystems/Administration/MLS.html
My apologies to Roman and the list. Oh what a wicked web ....
