Thanks guys
I tried Tomas's suggestion of insmod=e1000 hostip=192.168.1.10 netmask=255.255.255.0 This got me past the network config selections but I was then asked if I wanted to continue, selected yes and got a kernel panic again. Someone has also suggested I might get further if I use com port 2 as opposed to 1, will give it a go. I also now have a copy of SLES 9 sp2 so will also try that. If all that fails I will try upgrading the firmware. I'll let you know my findings

Hi
I managed to get hold of SLES sp2, burnt to CD for me.
Again from the SMS menu I booted from the CD device.
The following is a summary of output to the screen and options selected.
(some output is missing)
Loading kernel
v1.6.48 install program
searching for info file
driver update service pack 2
make sure CD1 is in the drive
1) ok
select language
4) english
Main menu
4) Start installation or system
1) start installation or update
Choose the source medium
1) cd-rom
Trying to mount the cd-rom
make sure CD1 is in the drive
And that's as far as it goes, cannot seem to mount the cd-rom.
I am not sure if I should be doing something else or if there is a problem
with the image on the CD?
Maybe I will give updating the firmware a go
Thanks
Martin

You may also want to verify that you are using the most up to date firmware release (SF235_180). Believe it or not, this often helps!

You can provide following arguments to have your network configuration already done:
in this case there will be no DHCP request.
You will find SP2 for download links at: http://www.novell.com/products/linuxenterpriseserver/sp2.html

want
to use DHCP. I select 2 for no, however I get the kernel panic error again. I
wonder
if
there is also an argument to "install" to answer the DHCP question, something like dhcp=no?
Thanks Martin
