Your data is on a HFS+ (or HFS extended) partition, and what you see on the Linux side is the HFS (no plus sign) "wrapper" created by Apple's Drive Setup (just to make sure that if you attach the disk to an older Mac OS, it doesn't prompt you to erase the disk). You must re-initialize the partition in HFS "standard" format (quickest way: startup from Mac OS, select the partition -icon- on the desktop, and choose "initialize disk" -or the like- from the "Other" menu in the Finder; backup your data first...). Then Linux will be able to mount it and you'll be able to copy the contents.
