speaker buzzing and KDE upgrade

hello, Well, I can't seem to find out why my speaker and volume channels are buzzing but it certainly started just after an upgrade to KDE 2.1.1. I have noticed that if i change virtual desktops, and the contrast of the screen changes, then the buzzing changes pitch, too. if anyone has any ideas as to what is going on, I'd be very grateful.
