You can (should) remove the libtool archives (.la); It's not really
needed. You also have cool macros to package Python, mainly:
%{python_sitearch} -> which should be used instead of the code you
currently have, ex:
- %{python_sitearch}/*.so
Since you have an .so, I'm pretty sure it's a arch dependent package;
if it wasn't you had %{python_sitelib} for this. There's also the
%{python_sitevendor} and a few others.
Python packaging is kinda easy :)

All,
I was looking at the upstream sample specfile for one of my packages (libewf) and it has a python bindings sub-package that I don't currently have.
The sample has:
%files python %defattr(644,root,root,755) %doc AUTHORS COPYING NEWS README %{_libdir}/python*/site-packages/*.la %{_libdir}/python*/site-packages/*.so
I don't think I've ever packaged a .la file, so it seems I should exclude that. Is that right?
