Have you ever considered a Thinkpad T42p or T43p? The 'P' is important here, as p series are optimized for graphical applications. With regard to linux support, thinkpads are 'non plus ultra'.
Thanks for the suggestions! I've now searched for IBM Thinkpad T42p and T43P, which according to the HCL lists above should run Linux ok. The highend TP43p is without doubt very powerful, but also (too) high priced; about twice the price or more than the two highend models I originally listed of interest: * Dell Precision M70 * Fujitsu Siemens Celsius H230 And with regards to technical specifications I am not sure if T43p really is better or not? However I searched the Opensuse Linux 10 HCL/Laptops list at http://www.opensuse.org/HCL/Laptops but could not find anything about Dell M70 or FSC H230. Neither a search on Suse Portal HCL or on Novell Sertified had some information. Maybe this hardware models are too new? This surprise me somewhat, because at least Fujitsu Siemens tells in their "Insight" paper that they "early defined Linux (beside Windows and Solaris), as one of their strategic operating system, like no other vendor in Europe. Celsius workstations (like Lifebook Notebooks and Scenic PCs) are ready for use under Linux". In the datasheet for Celsius H230 both Redhat and Novell Linux is listed among the OS (certification on request). Rgds, Terje J. Hanssen
