That is one of the problems.
If I read translation then I have a reason for that, most probably that my
command of English is not good enough. If translation brings reader to English
article, then it brings it to a problem, how to read that.
Solving that problem would mean a lot more translations then now, but the
result can be a lot more people willing to contribute, and to contribute
original articles in other languages.
My humble opinion on wiki translations is that we are missing a lot of
original content that would be created if wikis in other languages would not
be treated as English to translations, but simply wiki
in another language. That wiki can be created using some other wiki content,
it is not necessary that English is source, but then it has to start living
its own life. The only thing that should be common is basic layout.
The same we should consider for openSUSE Weekly News.
Translation should be a seed to initiate oWN in another language, but then it
has to bring some news that are interesting for readers of that language.
The structure of the news can be designed from 2 parts:
1) Common news, mostly distribution related
2) Local news, mostly community related, with addition of distro translation
efforts
