Hi all,
OK - the openSUSE 11.2 launch went, if I may say, pretty darn well. We
had a lot of the marketing team out there promoting openSUSE 11.2, and
we had good coverage in the press and the social media sites we
targeted.
I'd like to thank everybody who stepped up to make that happen. On
release day we had great presence and good coordination. The marketing
team members who participated should feel pretty good about now.
But you know we've still got plenty to do.
We've announced the release and hit the highlights, but there's a ton
of stuff "under the surface" with 11.2 and no reason why we can't
continue to spread the word about openSUSE 11.2 for the next five or
six months.
What kind of things should we do and what should we talk about? And where?
I've started a sample Editorial Calendar with some past entries filled out.
We need to fill a couple of areas:
News.opensuse.org: We need Marketing Team members to step up and claim
topics & deliver short articles for news.opensuse.org. Note -- if you
see something really interesting on Lizards, it might be something
good to reach out and see if the person who is writing on lizards
would like to brush up the post for news.o.o.
Announcements: We need to plan our announcements (major, not simple
things like weekly / bi-weekly meetings).
The openSUSE.org front page - we should have a new announcement or
something up on that page every week.
External publications -- writing for openSUSE News is good, but the
idea is to get the word out *beyond* our existing audience. We need
authors who can step up and pitch articles to publications outside
openSUSE. Some sites might even pay for openSUSE-related articles,
meaning that your work on the marketing team might help you put away
cash for the holidays or to travel to an openSUSE-related event.
Thoughts? I should be in #opensuse-marketing most of the day tomorrow.
Anyone interested in taking the "managing editor" hat and working to
schedule topics and make sure they come in reasonably on time?
Best,
Zonker
