Rowdy Rednose
If I enable kinput2, I am no longer able to use dead keys. Does anyone know, how I can use both?
Not with kinput2. Almost all XIM servers make it impossible
to use dead keys and compose.
But there is one exception, recent versions of SCIM allow you to keep
using dead keys and compose. I suggest you try SCIM instead of
kinput2.
Packages of the latest scim version for SuSE Linux 9.1 are in
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/m17n/9.1/
For Japanese you want to install at least the following packages:
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/m17n/9.1/i586/anthy-5613-0.1.i586.rpm
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/m17n/9.1/i586/scim-0.99.7-0.1.i586.rpm
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/m17n/9.1/i586/scim-devel-0.99.7-0.1.i586.rpm
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/m17n/9.1/i586/scim-uim-0.1.2-0.1.i586.rpm
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/m17n/9.1/i586/uim-0.4.2.1.20040820-0.1.i586.rpm
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/m17n/9.1/i586/uim-applet-0.4.2.1.20040820-0.1.i586.rpm
If you install the other scim-* packages, the m17n-* packages, libotf
and wordcut from that directory as well, you can use SCIM to input not
only Japanese but also Chinese, Korean and many other languages.
Start SCIM like this:
export XMODIFIERS=@im=SCIM
export GTK_IM_MODULE=scim
scim -d
If you like SCIM and want it to start always with your X-session,
create a ~/.xim file containing the above 3 lines.
