You mean you downloaded the ghostscript-cjk package? I don't think
that makes any difference here. I was asking about the other
ghostscript packages like ghostscript-library.
This is installed (all what needed I guess)
No, your error message is quite different, it complains about a
missing font "ShanHeiSun-Light".
????????? what is that?
It is the PostScript name of bsmi00lp.ttf, one of the Arphic PL fonts:
mike@kibou:~/test-texts/pdf/traditional-chinese$ ftdump /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype/bsmi00lp.ttf | grep postscript
postscript: ShanHeiSun-Light
mike@kibou:~/test-texts/pdf/traditional-chinese$
This font is in the package
mike@kibou:~/test-texts/pdf/traditional-chinese$ rpm -qf /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/tru
etype/bsmi00lp.ttf
ttf-arphic-bsmi00lp-20001125-478
mike@kibou:~/test-texts/pdf/traditional-chinese$
probably you don't have that package installed. If this package is installed,
SuSEconfig.ghostscript-cjk will create the following wrapper file:
mike@kibou:~/test-texts/pdf/traditional-chinese$ cat /usr/share/ghostscript/Resource/CIDFont/ShanHeiSun-Light
%!PS-Adobe-3.0 Resource-CIDFont
%%Creator: aliascid.ps by Taiji Yamada and gs-cjk project
%%BeginResource: CIDFont (ShanHeiSun-Light)
(ShanHeiSun-Light)
(/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype/bsmi00lp.ttf) .openttcidfont
/CIDFont defineresource pop
%%EndResource
%%EOF
mike@kibou:~/test-texts/pdf/traditional-chinese$
And then your ghostscript (and therefore pdf2ps) will be able to use
that font.
This font is apparently used in Edward's mycjk.pdf and it is not embedded:
mike@kibou:~/test-texts/pdf/traditional-chinese$ pdffonts mycjk.pdf | head -n 8
name type emb sub uni object ID
------------------------------------ ------------ --- --- --- ---------
ASZDTE+wclsm CID TrueType yes yes no 17 0
ASZDTE+NimbusRomNo9L-Regu Type 1 yes yes no 21 0
ShanHeiSun-Light CID TrueType no no no 24 0
ILYMAX+NimbusMonL-Regu Type 1 yes yes no 32 0
ZTUSUM+ZenKai-Medium CID TrueType yes yes no 49 0
CKNRBV+NimbusSanL-Regu Type 1 yes yes no 53 0
mike@kibou:~/test-texts/pdf/traditional-chinese$
I.e. when you install this font and use pdf2ps, you will use exactly the
same font as Edward used when creating mycjk.pdf, although the rendering
quality of pdf2ps is not that great.
If you use pdftops, the CID-keyed font
/usr/share/ghostscript/Resource/CIDFont/MOESung-Regular
will be used as a replacement, i.e. you will see a slightly different
font, but with better rendering quality.
Yes, this is all quite confusing.
