Ilya, See below - maybe an issue with kdebase3-kdm update on 8/25... On 09/09/2011 08:24 AM, Anton Aylward wrote:

guys
Updates tonight from the xorg repo broke x on my toshiba laptop. The system would boot and be dumped to console with some message about not being able to move Xorg.0.log to Xorg.0.log.old (ho hum...)
That _may_ be a permissions problem. It depends on how you start X
If you are using runlevel 5 then kdm should be running as root and kdm will start X and there should'nt be a problem.
Anton, thanks for you reply. Hmm... I'm using kdm, so I would expect the permissions to be handled automatically: 22:45 alchemy:~/tmp> ps ax | grep kdm 1458 ? Ss 0:00 /opt/kde3/bin/kdm
So you need a /etc/permissions.local /usr/bin/Xorg root:root 4711
and then run as root:
chkstat -set /etc/permissions.local
<snip>
I still get that sometimes but I wonder if my hardware is acting up
What is strange is that I have always used kdm to start X on 11.4 and it has been bullet proof. So this is new as of yesterday... <snip>
I've been having a LOT of problems with xorg packages or over a month now.
Yes, I recall your posts on it. There have been a whole lot of changes with radeon driver under bug: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=678264 but that has been a huge improvement for the driver. I wonder if this may not be a kde3/kdm issue that got introduced on one of the latest rebuilds. I'll forward this to Ilya and see if he has any thoughts as well...
