Having just done 'zypper ref; zypper up' on a TW installation (with no optional DE/WM repos enabled) I wanted to run through "Configure Desktop" (systemsettings5). It opens a shadow of a window complete with decorations, but a popup complains it "was unable to find any views, and hence has nothing to display", and on dismissing the popup the window closes. What is it that is supposed to provide "views"?
I have read about this problem (mostly on Kubuntu I think), but never seen it myself.
I saw, both recent and ancient, but saw no solutions I could relate to openSUSE.
Maybe you miss some package, or have some incompatible versions installed?
"Some package" is why I asked here. I'm unable to connect the dots between "some package" and "views".
Try a "zypper dup", I'd say.
Dup only proposes: remove dhcpd, pm-utils and suspend upgrade konsole and konsole-part upgrade 9 packman libs and Flash Did it anyway, and again, Konsole is back to not autostarting after having left it open at logout, and again it's back to white text on black background. :-(
When both "Configure Desktop" and "Configure KDE4 Applications" are in the (classic) start menu, is only the latter supposed to work or be used? The latter doesn't seem to have any way to turn off (compositing) effects except by disabling each effect separately.
No, your supposed to use systemsettings5 ("Configure Desktop"). As the name implies, "Configure KDE4 Applications" is KDE4's systemsettings, and changes KDE4's settings only. And Plasma5 does not respect nor migrate the old settings.
These are the menus I have by TW host: gx780: http://fm.no-ip.com/SS/KDE/startMenu-TW-k5-gx780-201508.jpg gx745: http://fm.no-ip.com/SS/KDE/startMenu-TW-k5-gx745-201508.jpg -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
