Off course the question it's outdated, but in KDE 3.5 there was Kprinfax to send documents by fax and I would like to know if there is the same kind of tool in KDE 4. I tried to install http://vigna.dsi.unimi.it/fax4CUPS/, but I wasn't successful.
Assuming 12.1:
18:43 Crash: ~> zypper se -s fax Loading repository data... Reading installed packages...
S | Name | Type | Version | Arch | Repository
--+-----------------------+------------+------------------+--------+--------------------- | capi4hylafax | package | 01.03.00-160.1.2 | x86_64 |
[snip]
I conclude that there is no such tool in KDE4. However, I feel that fax support has a better place as a printer driver, which is not a desktop thing. The circumstance that Linuxant does not keep up with the kernel does not make it any easier, but I digress :-(
I have lost the ability to send fax with 11.3, which I deeply regret, living in a retarded country as mine is. However, not so deeply as to keep 11.3 alive.
You do have some options and alternatives... First, there is a KDE bug open on this (but little interest in it unfortunately): https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=225479 A few people suggest this as a workaround: http://www.arneschmitt.de/archives/78 (requires caprifax and sendfax). And then there are the online options. A quick web search turns up a lot of online fax services.
