Guess I cannot figure it out on my own. I have had sound working correctly since 11.4 install last March, but it is gone and I have not been able to correct it. Some guidance is necessary.
I removed all pulse*, restarted rcalsasound to no avail. I ran alsaconfig and restarted sound to no avail. I reinstalled pulse to no avail.
There is no sound from kmix -> settings -> audio setup -> test
output devices: HDAIntel (ALC892 Analog) HDAIntel (ALC892 Digital) HDA Nvidia (HDMI 0) #3 HDA Nvidia, HDMI 0 (HDMI Audio Output) HDAIntel, ALC892 Digital (IEC958 (S/PDIF) Digital Audio Output HDAIntel, ALC892 Analog (DefaultAudio Device) HDA NVidia (HDMI 0) #7 HDA NVidia (HDMI 0) #8 HDA NVidia (HDMI 0) #9
all tested w/o success
backend is set to Xine, but VLC and GStreamer were also tried w/o success.
HELP, please.
tks,
I have to admit, Patrick, that I am not very good at interpreting the output such as the one which you provided above but I am guessing that your sound is coming from a chip on-board the mobo. If so, perhaps the chip has now failed? Also, if so, have you tried installing a sound card or trying another sound card if the answer is No?
Nothing worse than not having sound :-( . I sincerely hope that you have this hassle resolved soonest.

there's quite a bit of information on sorting out audio problems in the openSUSE forums. here's a script, per example, that checks all type of audio configurations and reports what is or isn't working. i've never used it myself i must admit, but many users seem to have used it successfully: http://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/multimedia/449156... there's also an "audio-guru" who goes by the name of 'oldcpu,' who seems to be able to help many with such problems. -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
