I recently upgraded my 11.4 install to 4.6.2 from the default 4.6.0 (?) version using the KDE:Release:46 repos, in addition to performing a "zypper dup" to upgrade my entire system. After the upgrade, kdm wouldn't let me log in. If I try to enter the password of the username created during the first install...it kicks me back to kdm. I had to drop down to the shell and create a new username through YaST. The new username and password now works properly.
Why could this be happening? Any ideas?
What does /etc/sysconfig/windowmanager have set for DEFAULT_WM? I've seen KDM login kick back to KDM too, but several days ago and I don't remember on which system(s) or whether I fixed it. I do remember seeing at least one other mailing list mention of it though. It may be the session type selected needs to be plasma instead of kde. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
