OpenSUSE appears to run quite happily for several days at a time, then without warning I am dropped out of X, seing briefly a page of scrolling error messages (not long enough to read them), then ending up at the login screen. kdm.log reports problems with the Intel display manager. http://pastebin.ca/1945131 might give some idea of what's happening.
Is there anything I can do to improve the situation? I presume I should file a bug report too, but to whom? OpenSUSE, KDE or Intel?
The intel gfx driver is known to be horrible in 11.3. Horrible timing with upstream. The bug should probably be filed at intel, but I doubt a bug report would be considered useful, since the kernel and X in 11.3 is already old and outdated from an upstream point of view. You could try installing latest kernel and X via the OBS repos, but using those repos involves a substantial risk of even more severe problems. Another option is to try the non-KMS intellegacy driver as described in the last version of the releasenotes: see /usr/share/doc/release-notes/openSUSE/RELEASE-NOTES.en.html#05 Or, try to figure out a way to avoid the problem with the default driver. E.g. are you using desktop effects? You probably don't want to do that with intel gfx on 11.3 :-( -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
