I use openSUSE 11.0, KDE 3.5.9, amarok-1.4.10-104.pm.105.7 & matching amarok-yauap. Configure Engine shows GStreamer/Yauap engine. RPM query shows gstreamer, ...lang, ...plugins (4 total), & libgstreamer-0_10-0-0.10.25-999.pm.1001.3.
What do I need to do to make Amarok work?
You can try to install libxine1-codecs from packman and amarok-xine. Gstreamer never worked well for me.
Turns out VLC wouldn't work any more either. I closed Skype after discovering sound coming from its headphones, reset sound in YaST2, and got VLC to work again, but not Amarok. After installing amarok-xine and amarok-packman and selecting xine engine Amarok works now too. I wonder if I dare try Skype again? Should there be any reason to leave gstreamer* installed? Is there any reason to have Kaffeine if VLC & Amarok are installed? -- "Suppos [sic] a nation in some distant region, should take the Bible for their only law book, and every member should regulate his conduct by the precepts there exhibited. . . .
