Ever since updating kontact via yast this morning I have run into problems sending jpg attachments via the gmail smtp server or to an account on gmail.
If sending via the gmail smtp server, the message reaches 99% and then I get an error message:
"Sending failed. Could not write file. The message content was not accepted. The server responded ' 5.7.0 Illegal attachment"
If sending to the gmail account, the message is bounced and I receive the following error message from my ISP:
" SMTP error from remote mail server after end of data: host gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com [66.249.93.114]: 552 5.7.0 Illegal Attachment p32si8007182ugc.26"
I can send the same jpg attachments using thunderbird both via the gmail smtp server and to the gmail account.
I have tried with several jpg files with no success with kmail.
Other attachments do not seem to be affected - I've sent pdf, tif, png and odt ones with no problems
Another thing I have noticed is that if I store the message in the draft folder and click on the jpg attachment to view it (in my default gwenview) the image will not appear.
My kmail is listed as: Kmail 1.9.9 (Using KDE 3.5.9 "release 51.2" opensUSE) and I'm running opensuse 10.3.
I can confirm the problem. I sent a jpg attachment from my gmail account to the same gmail account and cc'd the mail to my comcast account. gmail sent a status notification that said "Delivery to the following recipients failed permanently" no other details. The mail was delivered to the comcast account but the attachment was corrupt (was not opened by my default viewer "display") I then tried sending the attachment through comcast (rather than via gmail) to both accounts. Same result. It seems that gmail is actually scanning the attachment and not allowing the corrupt file through while my comcast account will let the file past but the jpg attachment is being corrupted (maybe when it is being base 64 encoded?) I also tried sending other attachments (png, pdf, bin). Although they sent without problems the received attachments were un-openable or inconsistant at best (might open w/ one program but not another and if it did open the file was still corrupted) Hope this info is helpful in solving the problem see ya -- dh --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
