"Suddenly" (or so it seems), I can not change wallpaper from the KDesktop configuration dialog. kcontrol -> Appearance & Themes -> Background, no settings in this dialog has any effects on the background. Running kcmshell background in a terminal does not produce any errors/output when changing the background settings, and they are not applied.
I can however, change the background with dcop call (|dcop kdesktop KBackgroundIface setWallpaper|), but that changes nothing in the desktop configuration dialog (it is out of sync with reality). I have not upgraded any KDE packages recently, which could have broken it, and I did change the wallpaper not long ago, without problems.
Any ideas ?
Last time I saw this symptom, someone shared the same user between two setups, one having two monitors and one having only one. kdesktop doesn't like that, it turned out. Removing kdesktoprc and starting from scratch should help you though.
