Two Problems (Suse 9.3, KDE 3.4.0/1)
I'm actually still on SuSE 9.0 Pro, but had upgraded KDE using SuSE's supplementary feeds, so now I'm on KDE 3.4.1
1. Konqueror crashes when deleting files
Can't say I've seen this. But I think others with SuSE 9.3 have reported this.
2. System/KDE crashing when halting the system. I end in X-Window with a black screen with only the mouse pointer. The Console is blinking in every color of the visible spektrum.
I get the black screen with mouse pointer somewhat frequently on shutdown, but I'm fairly convinced it has something to do with my graphics drivers and/or ReiserFS. Do you have an Nvidia graphics card, using the Nvidia binary drivers as opposed to the open source nv driver? I have a GeForce 2 card using Nvidia drivers for 3D acceleration and I have found reliability of their drivers to be very inconsistent from one release to the next. With some versions I have never had a lockup on shutdown, but had other problems. At the moment I am using driver 6629 as that seems best overall, but occassionally it still suffers this shutdown problem. I also mention ReiserFS because I've read of other people having lockup problems like this that went away when they stopped using ReiserFS, for example: http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-xfree86/2004-Jun/0064.html
Both errors mean that I cannot recommand Suse 9.3 at the moment.
I don't think the freeze on shutting down isn't specific to 9.3. When I eventually get around to upgrading I am going wipe my Linux partitions and install afresh, using XFS instead of ReiserFS and see if that does anything. -- Colin Pinkney http://www.cpinkney.org.uk
