The reason the docs won't open is your PC is not authenticated to the domain. The windows server will ask the browser for authentication information if the browser is configured and capable. If no authentication info then a new window will ask for user name and password. I don't get Konqueror to browse windows shares. Is there a setting that's needed or a plugin? Konqueror can browse SMB shares and that works fine for me. What I am wondering is if there is a way to configure Konqueror to browse domain urls. What I mean is in a windows domain (someplace.com) you have several machines with shares (server1, server2, etc), each of these has certain folders shared (docs). The PDC can be configured such that the server names are hidden from the user and the URL will look like \\someplace.com\files\docs. The <files> part of the url is an alias of some sort (I'm not a Windows SMB expert, so that probably isn't the right name).
When I enter an url similar to this in Konqueror (smb://someplace.com/files/ ) I will get a listing of the aliased folders (docs) but none of them are accessible, i.e. they always return an error that says they do not exist. If I use the url with the server name (smb://server1/docs/) it works.
Anyone have any idea how to make this work?
It is only important because of the way emailed smb URLs are sent to me. I can't find the mailed documents without actually knowing the server they live on.
Thanks,
