Ok, then try this. Make sure that your plugin, located in the /opt/mozilla/lib/plugins directory is a link to the actual java file, located in /usr/lib/java/jre/bin/. Many things for Konq now balk at being the actual plugin. They need to be a link instead. Mozilla doesn't care either way for some things, but if you check the readme files for most of the plugins now, they specifically instruct you to make a link to the actual file.

Tried your suggestion - I still get this error in the konsole window:
INTERNAL ERROR on Browser End: Some problem with the version 5
System error?:: No such file or directory
which is frustrating since all the files & directories do exist (or the symbolic links exist) and I can execute java from them. I don't understand why konqueror seems to think they don't exist. Strange?!

That doesn't sound like a Java error Geoff, but something else you are experiencing. Be sure to go into your Konq settings and turn Java on "globally", as well as pointing Konq to the actual java at /usr/lib/java/jre/bin/java. Be sure too also have Konq rescan for plugins in the Plugins section of the settings. Again, I'm not sure you are getting a Java error here, but try those things to see what occurs. Oh, I get the list mail too, so no need for you to send out two copies, just send to the list and I'll see it.
