Although this thread is related to starting a new session (now via kdm) from a window manager other than KDE I'm sure the answer could be found in the KDE menu's somehow. I don't know where to look specifically (and would love to find out) there are some items in the kde menu that are not directly accessible via the menu editor. One of these items is "Start New Session" Obviously if one could find out what happens when this menu is selected then they would be well on their way to solving the rest of the problem. So I'll add my 2 questions here Where are these additional kde menu's kept, and (as a side learning project) what diagnostics can I use to find out what command's are run when I select a menu.
