With kde 3.1 I got an error message which I don't remember, but now, with kde 3.2 the mouse pointer changes to the clock and nothing more. I once waited long enough and there came a message "file not found" but that might be because I opened the drive when I realized that my system was under heavy load caused by konqueror.
My system is SuSE 8.1 with KDE 3.2, a CD-ROM and a CD-RW drive installed. There is no problem playing an audio CD with xmms, no matter which drive it is in.
after your mail I tried it on my system as well. I do know that it worked after my original installation of a SuSE 8.2 with KDE 3.1.1. Now, after I upgraded to KDE3.2 it does not work any longer :-( I checked with pin audiocd and got the answer that kio_audio.la and .so should be in the package kdemultimedia3-sound-3.1.1-13.i586.rpm. Double checking with rpm -ql kdemultimedia3-sound (of my actual KDE3.2) deivered that there are no such files like kio_audio.la and .so in that package. Does anybody know where those files went? Thanks in advance Stefan
