Hi list ! I've done it ... upgraded to Kde 3.2.0 on my standard Suse 8.1 box. It is really a pretty standard box with XFree-4.2.0, Freetype2-2.0.9 . The more I was asthonished about the many unresolved deps when trying to install the rpms. But ignoring and using some tricks (and even seg faults) I could overcome those issues and whoop - the new KDE started. HOWEVER: - the rpms are built against libstdc++.so.5: version `GLIBCPP_3.2.2', which means, that several programmes such as juk, k3b are not starting ! That's annoying... - Sound is gone! Apart from many unresolved arts-deps, the main reason is that in the control center - sound system - hardware, you cannot select any type. There is autom. detection given only. This means alsa is selected, my card needs TOSS.... - the Euro is gone... At least in my de_DE... BUT: Apart from the above, Suse has done a good job, even for my "old" distro (including the kmail update). And KDE 3.2 is excellent.. I hope that the Suse people will release an update for the 8.1 rpms within the next days, so that people can use them... Udo
