I just installed JRE 1.4.1_01 on my SuSe 7.3 Pro / Intel PC I can confirm the installation was successful by typing 'java -version' Now, I have a java app I want to run. The app is located at /some_pathname/app/AppName.jar EXAMPLE 1: If I enter the following: cd /some_pathname/app <-- switch to directory java -jar AppName.jar <-- THEN launch app ... the java app will launch, but it takes a VERY long time to start up (maybe 2 minutes) EXAMPLE 2: however, if I enter the following instead: cd /home java -jar /some_pathname/app/AppName.jar ... the java app will launch almost immediately. For my purposes, I need to be in the directory that contains the app BEFORE I launch the app (as in the first example). Can anyone tell me why this method takes much longer? I suspect it may have something to do with a path setting but I do not know where to set this. Thanks. Eric Carbone
