When doing a KDE upgrade make sure to read the docs; I lost my addressbook this way. I didn't quite understand why. There was a single time upgrade script that converts the configuration, but it only works when you convert the whole environment from 2.x to 3.x. You cannot select which pieces you want to carry over. I did a blank install and later tried to use my old Addressbook. No luck, I had to extract the data from the text file manually. I am sure that I could have tracked down the source to do the conversion but, for some reason or another it didn't happen. On Saturday 24 August 2002 12:06, Patrick wrote:

Hi all,
I've bought suse 8.0 and want to upgrade from suse 7.2, and so doing to upgrade to kde 3 from version 2.1.2. The question is: Is there any help literature -or can someone give some guidelines- about how to do it without loosing the configuration of kde and avoiding make a mess with new and old files?.
Thanks, Toni

Toni, I am sure everyone will agree here that doing a new clean install of 8.0 would be your best solution. Sometimes moving from the previous install to the newer one will work, but with problems. Since you are making such a big move, a new install would be best. You could backup your /home directory to CDR if you like and try moving over some of your old settings later, but since there has been so much change from 2.1 to 3.0 KDE, I am not sure I would recommend that either.
SuSE 8.0 is a good install and I think you will benefit from doing a fresh installation.
